Golden Springs Elementary opened its doors 41 years ago in 1963. At that time Diamond Bar was a newly developed community and Golden Springs was Diamond Bar's first elementary school. Though attendance has fluctuated depending on the needs of the community and the gradual opening of other elementary schools in the area, the population has currently settled at 600 students and is an interesting and culturally diverse mix of students. Golden Springs is predominantly comprised of mid-point socio-economic families. Most heads of households are college educated.
Although Golden Springs has matured along with the community - renovation and refinement is always a priority and we offer contemporary classroom settings within the structure of a wholesome, clean and inviting campus. In addition, because technology is so important in today's world, our teachers continually cultivate their technology skills to provide the best possible technology training for our students. We also provide up-to-date equipment and software in the classrooms as well as in our state of the art multimedia center. The use of computers is intrinsic throughout all instruction at every grade level.
Throughout its history, Golden Springs' integrity for the strength of its instructional program has been well documented. In addition to core academics we integrate life skills and esthetic education into daily agenda. These areas include technology education, physical education, art appreciation, and public speaking skills, to mention just a few. We also provide a truly exceptional library with book and computer materials geared to pleasure reading or research and the assistance of a trained librarian.
We encourage our children to read and strive to develop good reading habits as statistics show that readers excel in all academic areas. We also stress writing ability and all of our grade levels are geared to build writing instruction into the daily agenda to bring out a child's creativity and expression through the written word. Thanks to our strong PTO and community support we are also able to provide a variety of interesting and educational assemblies and field trips. Our philosophy is to strive for balance between academics and life skills. In order to develop a well-rounded, happy individual prepared to go after whatever their dreams may be, we must provide a diverse curriculum to meet all the needs of our budding future citizens.
A huge component of our success is unparalleled commitment of our parents and community. The grassroots support of our community affects every aspect of the school's administration. Working together with the very welcome, concerned involvement of our families allows us to offer not only more intense and complex programs but, very importantly, programs that are provided in a nurturing family-oriented and serene setting which helps the children absorb information more readily.
Our programs are continually monitored for effectiveness and timeliness. The curriculum decisions are steered by the state content standards, and our school district. Our school administration, cluster elementary principal meetings, teachers and parent committees refine the programs. Note that all PUSD schools in the Diamond Bar area work together to develop school programs that transition easily from grade-to-grade and school-to-school.
Additionally, Golden Springs teachers are exceptional and dedicated. All teachers are seasoned professionals and most have advanced degrees. Their contribution and dedication to our students transcends their career obligations. The cornerstone of our success rests with these resourceful, creative and dedicated teachers who are as superior as our scores. Golden Springs students are truly fortunate to have this level of professional working with them.
Public schools have been under scrutiny since the inception of the API five years ago and tremendous effort has been made not only by our school district, but also statewide, to bolster instructional programs. The API is a state monitoring systems that ranks California public schools. This ranking is published in local newspapers every summer. Each year Golden Springs has scored the highest possible ranking of 10/10 with scores that place us in the 99th percentile nationwide.
We are also fortunate to reside in the Pomona Unified School District. Our school district has committed to and places much effort into helping its students achieve excellence. They provide us with student achievement tracking programs, instructional reference and are a source of support in all of our efforts to provide excellence.
We know we have something really special at Golden Springs. Our students do incredibly well. Their success can be directly attributed to the unwavering support of our families, the backing of our school district, our carefully designed curriculum and our amazing, dedicated staff. |
